The Towel Boy Open Casting Call

Summary:

We are holding open auditions for an independent feature film to be shot in and around San Francisco.

While this casting call is being held for the purposes of shooting a five minute promotional trailer to take to investment meetings, actors who are cast for this trailer will be continuing their roles when we shoot the film itself a few months later.

The trailer shoot will be unpaid however the film shoot pay will be determined by the final amount of financing we secure. All actors will receive a copy of the trailer on DVD for their acting reel.

The trailer will be shot over 3 days on Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday, November 30th - December 2nd.


Film Description:

The Towel Boy is a gross out comedy in the vein of films like American Pie, Porkys, There's Something About Mary, and Clerks 2.

Henry De La Verga is a very homophobic twenty-something towel boy at a women's spa and lives at home with his, more than a little dysfunctional, Filipino family.

But when he loses his job, after taking the advice of his best friend, to place a bet with a bookie from the Russian mafia, which he loses, he is forced to take a job at a gay bathhouse to pay off his debt. All the while he tries to hide his new employment from Larissa Wackers, whom he is quickly falling in love with.

With only 30 days to pay off the bookie, Henry enters a world he is disgusted by to avoid Vladimir's threat of death.

The Towel Boy is a sweet tale of unconditional love, family, and overcoming prejudice; all wrapped up in a blanket of nudity, vulgarity, and crass humor.


Casting Information:

Casting will be held in our production office in San Francisco on Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday, October 26th - 28th and November 2nd - 4th. Callbacks will occur the week of November 9th - 15th. Water and coffee will be provided.

These auditions will be videotaped for use by the production team for the sole purpose of reviewing performances. Audition tapes of the actors who are cast will also be used on the eventual DVD release. A waiver will be provided for your signature at the time of audition, however if you prefer not to sign this waiver until you are cast, that is fine.

Role Information:

The Lead and Supporting roles are major roles with a lot of screen time in the film, some more than others obviously.

The Day Player roles all have speaking parts in both the trailer and the film, though their role in the film is, in most cases, greatly expanded.

The Extras roles do not have speaking parts in the trailer, though some of them have one or more scenes in the film where they have a lot of dialogue. Those with large speaking parts in the film will have a note next to them to indicate as much.

Because we want the very best acting possible for every part, speaking or otherwise, we will be treating the auditions of the Day Players and Extras as seriously as that of the leading roles.


Leading Roles:

Henry De La Verga - Filipino American Male, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Henry is an awkward, timid, temperamental, and homophobic young man, with no accent, who works as a towel boy at a women's spa and lives at home with his parents and his gay cousin. He lacks confidence when it comes to women and often finds himself in embarrassing situations. He rarely stands up for himself and has a tendency to let others walk all over him. Despite all of that he is a genuinely good person with a good heart. [Has several rear nudity scenes.]

Larissa Wackers - Caucasian Female, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Henry's love interest - Larissa has problems finding the right man, that is, she tends to date guys that lie to her. She also longs for family as her own degenerate father only sees her when he needs money. She works as a waitress while taking journalism courses, but her passion and her dream are to be a network news anchor. All of these problems are made worse by her extreme Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that manifests itself through wacky physical behavior. [Has one sex scene in bra and panties.]


Supporting Roles:

Helen Chattersly - Female, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Larissa's best friend - Helen is a much wilder girl than Larissa. She's very sexual, very bold, somewhat crass, and might be bi-sexual. She always has Larissa's best interests in mind. As a beautician and hair stylist, her own beauty and style are very important to her.

Willie Jackson - Caucasian Male, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Henry's best friend - Willie is a womanizing, alcoholic, drug addict, sexaholic, degenerate gambler, and wanna-be rapper who thinks he's black. His raps are horrible, but he's oblivious to that, he'll bet on anything and wins as often as he loses, and he tends to date vapid women. But when he isn't involved with the above, and sometimes while he is, he chooses to spend time drinking with Henry.

Mom De La Verga - Filipino Female, Mid 40s (35 - 55)
Henry's mom - Mom is an overbearing, opinionative, know it all, woman with a thick accent and a heart of gold. She has her family's best interests in mind, even when it doesn't seem so, and she runs her house with an iron fist. She's also a bit flighty, though you would never tell her that!

Dad De La Verga - Filipino Male, Mid 50s (35 - 55)
Henry's dad - Dad is a sweet caring man who loves his family unconditionally and provides for his family no matter what. However he does this in stoic silence as he almost never speaks and communicates mostly with body language and grunting. When he does speak he imparts Silent Bob worthy wisdom in a thick accent.

Grandpa De La Verga - Filipino Male, 60 - 70 (55 - 80)
Henry's grandpa - Grandpa is a grumpy old man with a chip on his shoulder who belittles everyone, in his thick accent, and considers almost everything "gay". He never has a kind thing to say and certainly wouldn't say it if he did. Yet he's adorable!

Jorge De La Verga - Filipino Male, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Henry's cousin - Jorge is a flamboyantly gay young hair stylist who lives with Henry's family. He is gay and he doesn't care who knows it or what they think about it. His is a personality so strong that nothing offends him or embarrasses him. He too has a thick accent. [Has a scene in a flesh colored Speedo.]

Vladimir The Bookie - Caucasian Male, 30 - 40 (25 - 50)
The Russian mobster - Vladimir thinks he's a much nicer guy than he is. He is flippantly and casually violent yet deep down he has a sensitive soul. His mastery of the English language is lacking yet he communicates very clearly despite his thick accent and limited vocabulary. He regularly has his henchmen administer beatings as reminders that a loan is due, but will administer the beating himself if he feels his threats are not being respected.

Phil The Gay Giant - Male, 30 - 40 (18 - 50)
Gay bathhouse regular - Phil is a brilliant, well spoken, well educated, and extremely tall man who acts as den mother to the diverse band of regulars who frequent the gay bathhouse. His size makes him intimidating but he's the sweetest man imaginable. Not flamboyant in any way, he helps ease Henry's transition into his new job and acts as a mentor. And though he dislikes Henry's homophobia, it doesn't cause him any anger or discomfort. [Has scenes in a Speedo.]

Joey The Angry Gay Midget - Male, Mid 30s (18 - 50)
Gay bathhouse regular - Joey is gruff, brash, hot tempered, passionate little person with a chip on his shoulder. He flies off the handle quickly and resorts to violence, or at least the threat of violence, yet when you get to know him, and earn his trust, he's the sweetest and most loyal of friends. Though with everything he's angry about, being a little person, or being gay, is not one of them. His voice matches his strong personality as he talks just like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. [Has scenes in a Speedo.]

Gay Cholo - Latino Male, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Gay bathhouse regular - Gay Cholo is an ex-gang banger, ex-con, with anger management issues. Having developed a taste for gay sex in prison, he is thoroughly convinced that he is not gay, despite being a regular at the gay bathhouse. While his relationship with Henry is initially aggressive, the soon become friends. He has a thick Chicano accent and speaks in spanglish. [Has scenes in a Speedo.]

Jizz Mopper - Male, Mid 20s (18 - 35)
Gay bathhouse Janitor - Jizz Mopper is an eccentric and quirky young man who seems to be completely unaffected by, and desensitized to, even the most disgusting behaviors and messes. Having made a career of cleaning up DNA, his biggest aspiration in life is to create a product that vaporizes various bodily fluids on contact. He acts as a sometimes mentor to Henry and helps ease his transition into his new job, despite Henry being shocked by the casualness with which Jizz Mopper accepts things.

Bathhouse Czar - Caucasian Male, Mid 40s (35 - 55)
Women's spa Manager - Bathhouse Czar is a middle aged Russian man who speaks broken English with a thick accent and runs the Women's spa where Henry works. An alcoholic, he rules with an iron fist and lacks any semblence of tact or concern for other people's feelings and dishes out insults that he accepts as facts.

Yakmayoff Pooshinin - Caucasian Male, Mid 40s (35 - 55)
Gay bathhouse Manager - Yakmayoff, Bathhouse Czar's cousin, is a middle aged Russian man, with a thick accent, who runs the gay bathhouse. He strives to keep the regulars and employees happy and to foster a feeling of family in his establishment. However he finds it increasingly difficult to stop the towel boys he hires from quitting their jobs.

A very attractive and sexy young woman Henry meets at the bar. He hits on her unsuccessfully.

A narcissistic and uncaring "player" who cheats on Larissa and is caught in the act.

A callous and mean spirited man who berates Henry for daring to interview at his office.
